How I met Katrina was purely serendipitous. I was going through Facebook when I saw a feature of two plus size bloggers that immediately caught my attention. I didn’t know back then these awesome blogs existed, I read a few posts and was hooked! I perused their followers and came across Katrina’s blog style.katrinaramosatienza.com and was at once drawn to her writing (witty, funny and brutally honest) and to her unapologetic, super confident photos and anecdotes about life and everything in between. She made the simple, mundane things interesting with her words and tone–sometimes poking fun at herself, a life event, or a particular incident. I ended up spending a good amount of time reading, laughing out loud and sympathising with her woes, that at the end of the day I wrote her an email asking to meet up, crossing my fingers she wouldn’t find it creepy. We finally got to meet late last year one Saturday morning and she was everything I expected her online persona to be: funny, smart, extremely approachable albeit a little shy and soft-spoken, somewhat a far cry from the self-assured bikini-wearing vixen in her beach posts. I liked her immediately, noticed her love for OOTDs and asked her if she was game to be featured in S.O.S. “I need to shop first, though!” was her reply. No problem I said and she promised to be in touch when she had the funds. Fast forward to February when she finally got back to me and was ready to pick up a few items for work and play. ” I need grab-and-go pieces for work since I’m always rushing in the morning, but also have to be flexible for downtime”, she requested. Done!
I’ve been in the process of collaborating with local brands for the blog by way of sponsoring a shopper as part of their marketing. I thought it would be a great way to help out my clients who might otherwise be clueless about where to shop in Manila as well as introduce these fine local retailers to a broader market. Tyler is one of the first brands who so graciously agreed to the partnership and I was pleasantly surprised that it has evolved from the signature structured pieces they were known for. Now, apart from the usual corporate wear, Tyler has injected easy weekend separates, chic cocktail dresses, double-duty tops and more importantly, an equally diverse men’s collection that even includes socks and accessories! Such good news to my male clients whose issue is always the lack of options for wearable, functional and fashionable menswear in the metro.
Here are the looks we came up with, shot under intense heat but had a blast nonetheless! Enjoy!
In the words of fashion designer Vera Wang, “A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her own clothes.”
Thank you, Katrina for teaching us this invaluable lesson.
